The Battle of Virtukai took place on July 22, 1945 in Virtukai Forest, near the Lyduvėnai Railway Station, between the Lithuanian partisan Žebenkščiai team and the NKVD soldiers surrounding their camp.

In 1995, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Virtukai Battle, a memorial was erected and consecrated in the shade of oaks to commemorate the victims of the freedom struggles, in 2008 - 5 typical memorial signs, on the edge of Virtukai Forest - a memorial sign.

On the initiative of Kęstutis Markevičius, the grandson of Petras Markevičius-Pranckus, who died in the battle, a memorial stone “For the Died Heroes of Virtukai Fighting” was erected in Virtukai Forest, on the battlefield.
