MONUMENT TO VLADAS PUTVINSKIS-PŪTVIS IN KELMĖ

A monument to Vladas Putvinskis-Pūtvis, the founder and first chief of the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union, appeared in Kelmė. The monument was erected on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union.

The author of the monument is V. Putvinskis' grandson, architect Stasys Pūtvis.

V. Putvinskis founded the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union together with like-minded people in 1919, and in 1919–1922 was its chairman. In 1928 he was awarded the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas of the 2nd degree for merits in restoring and consolidating Lithuania's independence.
